MOROCCO is a country which has considerable aesthetic richness in the field of the craft industry, being inherited from a glorious past .

Started from raw materials, crafted men spent their lives to create crafted works, which witness to the love that they have for their history and their handcrafts. More than experience, the time given to these crafts, care, precision and the know-how which render each work an original one.

Although the city is close to Sale, the technique of the embroidery is different there. The needle generally used is the one with double face which is repeated regularly. Threads are tight against one another until entirely covering basic fabric.

The point can be right or oblique in the same piece of cloth.

One of the variants is the opposed flat point: the two half-points overlap according to a right angle.The embroideries are largely used for furnishing. In the ancient works, colours were uniform and clear. The most recent embroideries are in a more constant tone : green, lemon-yellow.

For the first, the Rbati carpet would find its remote origin in Asia. For the other, they would be the Moslems of Andalusia who came and settled on the banks of Bou Regreg after the Reconquista which would have imported the motives and the techniques for its manufacture.

Synonymous with smoothness and richness, the carpet of Rabat displays an art seldom equal to any referred one worldwide among the wool carpets. The ancient have the value of masterpiece collections. Of citadin origin, the carpets of Rabat are less ancient than those originating from the Berber regions. A great doubt remains as for their origins. And as each time the historical truth is missing, the legend replaces it.Thus, it would be a stork coming from the East which would have let choir some fragments reproduced at once by the women in the city. In fact two theses are considered.

But through the centuries, they were modelled with the aesthetic touches of the country, with a clear Eastern inspiration. The ancient models go back to the XVIIIth century and these are the only Moroccan carpets whose motives differ diametrically from the Berber carpets.
